Description: This mouth-watering Korean-Style BBQ Beef recipe is a flavorful and spicy twist on traditional Korean BBQ. Thinly sliced flank steak is marinated in a sweet and savory mixture of soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and sugar, then grilled to perfection and served with a spicy gochujang sauce.

Marinade:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound flank steak, sliced into thin strips
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Korean chili flakes (gochugaru)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Gochujang Sauce:

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup gochujang paste (Korean chili paste)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, Korean chili flakes, vegetable oil, green onions, sesame oil, and sesame seeds. Add the sliced flank steak and marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight, refrigerated.
  2. Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade, letting any excess liquid drip off. Grill the steak for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked to desired level of doneness. Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  3. Meanwhile, prepare the gochujang sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together gochujang paste, soy sauce, rice vinegar, water, Gochugaru, honey, and toasted sesame oil.
  4. To serve, slice the grilled steak into thin strips. Brush the gochujang sauce on the steak and serve with additional sauce on the side. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds, green onions, and kimchi (Korean fermented cabbage) if desired.

  • Substitute flank steak with skirt steak or ribeye for a different flavor and texture.
  • Add some crispy garlic and toasted sesame seeds on top of the steak for added crunch and flavor.
  • Serve with steamed rice, kimchi, and pickled ginger for a complete Korean-style BBQ experience.
