Serving: 8 slices

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 cups warm water (110°F – 115°F)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Extra flour for dusting

METHOD:

  1. Dissolve the yeast in warm water in a small bowl. Set it aside for 10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, salt, and brown sugar. Mix well.

  3. Add the ground cloves to the mixture and stir until the spices are evenly distributed.

  4. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Using a spatula or wooden spoon, mix everything together until a dough forms.

  5. Place the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  6. Grease a large mixing bowl and place the dough inside. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free area for 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.

  7. After the dough has risen, punch it down and then shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.

  8. Let the dough rise again in the loaf pan for 30 minutes to 1 hour or until it puffs up over the edges of the pan.

  9. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and place the bread pan on the center rack. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the bread turns golden brown and sounds hollow when you tap the bottom.

  10. Remove the bread from the oven and the pan. Transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  11. Slice the bread into 8 or more slices using a serrated knife. Serve and enjoy the warm spice and toasty flavor of this wholesome clove wheat bread.
