Hearty Oats: Delicious & Nutritious Overnight Oats for Beginners Recipe
Ingredients:
– 1 cup of old-fashioned rolled oats
– 1 1/2 cups of milk (dairy or non-dairy, such as almond or soy)
– 1/2 cup of yogurt (can substitute with more milk or non-dairy yogurt)
– 1 tablespoon of chia seeds (optional)
– 1-2 tablespoons of honey, maple syrup, or preferred sweetener
– 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
– 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
– 1/2 cup of fruit, chopped (such as berries, bananas, or apples)
– Toppings (optional): nuts, seeds, granola, more fruit, etc.
Instructions:
1. In a 32-oz mason jar or an air-tight container with a lid, combine the rolled oats, milk, yogurt, chia seeds (if using), sweetener, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
2. Stir the ingredients well to combine, ensuring that the oats are fully submerged in the liquid.
3. Seal the jar or container with its lid and place it in the refrigerator overnight (or for at least 6 hours). This allows the oats to soak up the liquid, softening and plumping them.
4. When ready to serve, remove the jar from the refrigerator and give the contents a good stir. If desire, add in the chopped fruit and any additional toppings.
5. Enjoy your hearty and nutritious overnight oats! They can be eaten cold as is or heated up for a warm and comforting meal.
