Ingredients:

  • 14 oz soft tofu
  • 8 oz tempeh, sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, dried basil, salt, and pepper. This will be your infusion.

  2. Press the tofu by placing it between two paper towels and put a heavy object on top for 15 minutes to remove excess water.

  3. Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes.

  4. Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the sliced tempeh to the pan and gently fry until all sides are lightly browned and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  5. In the same pan, add the cubed tofu. Gently fry until lightly browned, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.

  6. Pour the buttery soy infusion over the fried tofu and tempeh. Stir to coat all the ingredients completely.

  7. Reduce the heat to medium-low, adjust the temperature as needed to keep the dish warm without burning.

  8. Allow the flavors to meld for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  9. Taste the dish and add more salt and pepper if needed.

  10. Serve the tofu and tempeh infusion as an appetizer or main course. This dish pairs well with steamed rice and a fresh veggie side dish. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired.
